QUICK EXPLAINER VIDEO ABOVE.ALL THE DETAILS BELOW:All bookings are handled through the website. Come to our HQ located at 29 David St. W. in the rear of the Elora Curling Club on the day of your adventure. All participants may arrive anytime between 10am and 3pm to collect their equipment. Yes, we know your booking says 3pm, but you must arrive BEFORE 3pm. We stop handing out equipment at 3pm, NO EXCEPTIONS. We provide a 5 hour window to collect your equipment. Please leave ample to arrive within this 5 hour window. Upon arrival you will be asked if you've completed your Tubing Registration with the Elora Gorge Park yet. This is required to go tubing within the Elora Gorge Park where the rapids take place. The cost is $21.50 / person (taxes included). Tubing Registration on the Park's website only opens 3 days in advance. It does not sell out, and, even if it did, all Elora Rapids Inc. customers are guaranteed the ability to register for tubing. To register for tubing, visit the Elora Gorge Park's website:Click "Elora Gorge Tubing Tickets", choose your date, and then follow the prompts and fill in the fields. WARNING: Be sure to choose Registration Only. Registration Only. You already rented equipment, so you should not choose Registration and Equipment. Be sure to add a tubing ticket for each member of your group. You will then receive an email from the Elora Gorge Park where you will sign their e-waiver. Elora Rapids Inc. also has a waiver that must be signed by every member of your group. Our waivers are hard copy waivers located at our HQ upon arrival. Once the registration is complete, the Park's e-waiver is signed, and our hard copy waiver is signed, you can then check in at our front desk. We will take a picture of one drivers licence from the group as our security deposit, give you some directions about your day ahead, and then hand out your equipment. Your river tubing rental equipment consists of a tube, pfd, helmet and tether. Additionally, your group will receive a 12v portable electric pump. Test it in your car before departing to make sure it works. The pump will be used to reinflate your tubes (b/c you'll probably need to deflate them to fit in your vehicle) in about 1 minute each. Why do we give you inflated tubes if they must be deflated by you anyway? - to prove that they hold air and are suitable for river tubing. We inflate every tube every evening when they are returned to us. We then inspect the tubes the next morning. Any that are slightly or completely flat are set aside. Note: After you deflate your tube, DO NOT LOSE your boston valve. You will not be able to inflate the tube without it and it costs $7 to replace. The best way not to lose your boston valve is to screw it right back on after you've deflated it. With your pump tested and your equipment loaded, you are now ready to go to the Elora Gorge Park located a 7400 Wellington Road 21 in Elora, about a 4 minute drive from Elora Rapids Inc. HQ, just past the Grand River Raceway on the outskirts of Elora. Upon entering the park you will pay an entry fee of $9.50 / adult or $4 / child (ages 12 and under). If you are camping at the park or possess a Grand River membership, entry is free. These extra fees + our $34 / person rental fee adds up to a grand total of $65 / person ($59.50 / child). The park ranger will direct you to the tubing pavilion parking lot where your car will remain for the day. Use the 12v pump provided to inflate your tube. Lock all valuables in your car and bring your equipment with you to the tubing registration pavilion to receive your tubing registration wristbands. Elora Rapids Inc. sells waterproof smartphone cases at HQ for car keys and phones at $15 each or 2 for $20. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ON THE RIVER WITHOUT YOUR REGISTRATION WRISTBANDS ON YOUR WRIST AND PROOF THAT YOU HAVE A TETHER ATTACHED TO YOUR TUBE. THE TETHER MUST ALSO BE WORN ON YOUR WRIST. All those tubing must report to the tubing registration pavilion before 4pm, no exceptions. With your valuables locked away, your helmet on, your pfd on, your tube inflated, and your registration wristband and tether attached to your wrist, your journey may now begin. Follow the yellow feet painted on the Park's roadway to the tubing launch, about a 12 - 15 minute walk upstream. Once at the launch, show the park attendant your wristband and tether, and enjoy the journey through the numerous rapids within the Elora Gorge. The float takes 1 - 1.5 hours. Try to stay in the middle of the river where the flow is best. Stay away from sharp sticks along the edges. If you capsize, stay calm, float on your back with your feet pointing downstream, and wait till the waters are calm. Then, you can hop back on your tube. There are numerous rapids, each followed by a calm section. Enjoy the beauty of the Gorge as you marvel at the cliffs above. And, be sure to scan ahead, downstream so that you do not run into any river debris along the sides of the river or get caught on some rocks within the river. The end of the float is located at the low level bridge. Hop out of the river, cross the bridge and make your way back to your vehicle. Be sure to keep the river on your left as you walk upstream to the parking lot. The walk is about 1 km in length and takes 12 - 15 minutes. Once back at the parking lot you may either take a break and do the journey all over again, or, call it a day, deflate your equipment and return it back to Elora Rapids Inc. HQ. All equipment must be returned before 6pm to avoid a late fee. We will collect your equipment - tubes, pfds, pump, tether, helmets. Be sure to not lose your valve after deflating your tubes. The best way not to lose them is to simply screw them back on again. With your equipment returned, we will check your name off of our daily customer list and delete your drivers licence picture from our records. The logistics are a bit much, but with the knowledge above, there will be no surprises on the day, and you can more easily relax and enjoy the beauty that is the Elora Gorge.
QUICK EXPLAINER VIDEO ABOVE.ALL THE DETAILS BELOW:Let's face it. Not everyone wants to get thrown around and possibly capsize in the rapids of the Elora Gorge. This is why we offer Tubing The Grand River Valley Lazy Float. You'll sit back and relax without the fear of large rapids. The Lazy Float is also great for those who don't want to wear a helmet all day (to ruin a perfect hair day), don't want to pay the Elora Gorge Park's extra registration and entry fees, and want a bit less walking (a shuttle service is included). All bookings are handled through our website's Book Online page. Come to Elora Rapids Inc. on the day of your adventure at 29 David Street W., in the rear of the Elora Curling Club. Your reservation will say it is for 3pm. But, your must arrive BEFORE 3PM. In fact, you can arrive anytime between 10:30am and 3pm to collect your equipment. Once you arrive, you'll need to sign our hard copy waivers. Everyone in your group must sign the waiver. Bring the signed waiver up to our front desk, at which time staff will check you in, and take a picture of one drivers licence from your group as our security deposit. After some quick directions about your day on the water, you will receive your equipment which includes a tube (or kayak with paddle) and pfd. Your tube (or kayak) will be given to you inflated to show you that the tube does not have any punctures. Every evening when equipment is returned, Elora Rapids Inc. staff inflate the tubes and kayaks and let them sit, inflated, overnight. The next morning if any tubes or kayaks are slightly or completely deflated, they are put aside. Most customers do not have vehicles large enough to fit fully inflated tubes (or kayaks) so you will need to deflate them to fit. Note: After you deflate your tube, DO NOT LOSE your boston valve. You will not be able to inflate the tube without it and it costs $7 to replace. The best way not to lose your boston valve is to screw it right back on after you've deflated it. You will then drive to our satellite location in the large parking lot at the corner of Maple St. and St. George St. W in Fergus. We will have a staff located here that will reinflate your tubes (or kayaks) and give your directions to the river. All customers must arrive to our satellite location and meet our staff BEFORE 3:30pm. This staff members leaves the satellite parking lot at 3:30pm sharp. From here, it is a short 8 minute walk, downhill, from this parking lot to the river. Lock all valuables in your car before making your way to the river. Elora Rapids Inc. sells waterproof phone cases to protect keys and phones at HQ for $15 each or 2 for $20. Watch out for trees branches while on the trail. A punctured tube doesn't float very well on the water. Upon getting to the river be sure to go into the river knee deep before getting on your tube and then kick your way out to the middle of the river. This way you'll avoid scraping the bottom of your tube against the rocks. Now, sit back and relax. But, be sure to scan the river ahead to stay away from shallow areas. And, be sure to stay in the middle of the river where flows are best. Also avoid any sticks and river debris along the sides of the river. When the river splits, RIGHT IS RIGHT. It is best to go right as the river is a bit deeper to the right. You'll float for typically 1 - 1.5 hours before reaching the end of your float. The end of the float is marked by the very first bridge you come across, known locally as the Trestle Bridge. A staff member here will call you over to the side of the river and direct you to our shuttle bus (about a 4 minute walk along some trails) which will be on the shoulder of the entrance of the Aboyne Trails Parking lot. Helpful tip: Don't deflate your tube until you see the shuttle bus. It makes for a comfortable seat while you wait if the bus is not there. The bus runs continuously from the Aboyne Trails Parking to the satellite parking lot where you vehicle is parked. It usually leaves every 15 minutes. Deflate your tubes to get onto the shuttle bus. Once back at our satellite parking lot you can either go again, if time permits (in which case our staff will quickly reinflate your tube), or call it a day. Remember, if you wish to go again, you must arrive to the satellite parking lot BEFORE 3:30pm. Our staff here leave at 3:30pm sharp. When you've had enough tubing for the day simply pack your rental equipment into your vehicle and return it to Elora Rapids Inc. HQ before 6pm to avoid a late fee. Upon arriving back at Elora Rapids HQ, staff will collect your tubes (or kayaks and paddles) and pfds and check you name off of our customer list.
It is not recommended to do the Lazy Float and the Rapids in the same day as these two floats are in two different locations and the logistics can be complicated. For this reason, it is easiest to simply choose one and enjoy it more than once. The earlier you pick up your equipment, the more time you have with it, and the more likely your chances to be able to float more than once. DO NOT WAIT TILL 3PM. Come earlier in the day.
As the name suggests, The Rapids have rapids and the Lazy Float is lazy. The Rapids generally are for those who wish to have a bit more adventure. You'll need to be over 70 pounds and over 48" tall to participate. And, obviously, you'll need to know how to swim (all customers must know how to swim for all tubing activities). The Rapids have a smaller rental fee of $34 (because you don't have access to our shuttle) but you'll need to pay the additional Park entry and Park tubing registration fees. You'll receive a helmet and tether as part of your tubing rental and you'll have a bit more walking since we cannot operate our shuttle within the Elora Gorge Park. The total cost of the Rapids is $65 / adult and $59.50 / child. The Lazy Float is generally for customers who want a more relaxed journey. It includes a shuttle and thus costs a bit more at $45 / person. But, you will not have to pay the extra Elora Gorge Park entry and registration fees because the float does not take place within the Elora Gorge Park. So, the total cost of the Lazy Float is just $45 / person. You'll also receive the option of whether you'd like to use an inflatable kayak with paddle or one of our river tubes. The choice is yours and it is nice to have options. Note, The Rapids takes place every day of the summer whereas the Lazy Float is only available on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
All participants that wish to partake in Tubing The Elora Gorge Rapids have to pay three fees. The first fee is the equipment rental fee of $34 / person. If you have your own equipment you will not need to pay this fee and do not need to book with Elora Rapids Inc. The second fee is the Elora Gorge Park tubing registration fee of $21.50 / person. Everyone that goes tubing within the Elora Gorge Park to ride The Rapids must pay this fee. It is paid online on the parks website:Click "Elora Gorge Tubing Tickets"Choose the day you wish to go (The Park only opens up registration 3 days in advance).Click "Add Tubing Ticket"Fill in the necessary fields and then toggle REGISTRATION ONLY. DO NOT TOGGLE REGISTRATION + EQUIPMENT IF YOU RENTED YOUR EQUIPMENT FROM ELORA RAPIDS INC. OR HAVE YOUR OWN. REGISTRATION ONLY. REGISTRATION ONLY. REGISTRATION ONLY. Add a tubing ticket for every member of your group and have everyone sign the e-waiver that will be emailed to the email address you supply. The third fee is the Elora Gorge Park entry fee which is $9.50 / adult or $4 / child (12 and under). When you add these fees together (all taxes included) the total cost is $65 / person (or $59.50 / child).
